Advent 2016
Advent Waiting Chain
“I can’t wait!” What does that really mean? Most of the time we have no choice about waiting or not. Grown-ups sometimes say, “I’m really looking forward to it,” and that means they really want something to happen. And in all the year, there’s really nothing quite like “looking forward to” the sights and sounds, tastes and feelings of Christmas. “I can’t wait!”
But no matter what we do, December 25th won’t arrive any sooner. What’s important is how we wait. Christians around the world wait for Christmas during Advent, a time to recall what we’re waiting for - and why it’s so important.
Advent shows us that Christmas is really three celebrations rolled into one. First, we celebrate Jesus’ birth in a Bethlehem stable twenty centuries ago. Second, we look ahead to the time that Jesus will come again at the end of time. Third, Advent helps us remember that Jesus comes to us every day of our lives, if we make a place for Him in our hearts.
During Advent in 2016, the children in CLOW opened their hearts for the arrival of Jesus by creating an Advent Waiting chain (pictured). Each week, they wrote their intended kindnesses and good deeds on paper links and used them to make a paper chain which decorated a tree in Sacred Heart's meeting room.
