Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for the coming of Easter. The forty days of Lent represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry. Our Lenten journey lasts for forty days, not counting Sundays, from Ash Wednesday through Holy Saturday.
During Children’s Liturgy of the Word on February 25, March 4, March 11, and March 18, we will journey together along Our Lenten Path. On the wall in Sacred Heart’s meeting room, you will find three bare trees. A cobblestone path winding through the trees leads to three crosses on a hill. Each week during Lent the children will add leaves decorated with their prayers, intended sacrifices, and acts of kindness to the trees. Week by week, our barren trees will fill up with leaves that are a testament to the love the children are sharing with God and neighbor. We invite you to stop by the meeting room and see our Lenten display grow week by week.
The children are bringing home their own Lenten Path. This handout lists ways to pray, fast, and serve. You may print out another copy of this handout by clicking on the button below.
On Palm Sunday, March 25, some of the older children will help proclaim the Gospel to the younger children with a dramatization of the Lord’s Passion. After a short homily and discussion of Holy Week, the children will create a craft that celebrates Jesus’ Resurrection.
Many blessings, The Children’s Liturgy of the Word Team
